What to Expect
Your first session, step by step — and answers to the questions people ask before they come.
How it works
Get in touch
Email us yourself, or ask someone who supports you to refer you. You don’t need a referral to take part.
We reply
We’ll confirm the session details and answer any questions, including anything that would help you take part comfortably.
Your first session
You’ll fill in a short registration form with an emergency contact and anything we should know to support you. Then it’s straight on to the music — the equipment is all there.
Settle in at your own pace
Hands-on, in a small group, with no pressure. Nobody has to share anything personal, and you’re never put on the spot.
The venue
The current 12-week course runs Mondays, 18:30–20:30 at Bryer Road Community Centre, Prescot L35 5DW.
- Step-free and wheelchair accessible
- Free parking on the road outside

Questions people ask
Do I need any music experience?
No. Most people start with none. We’ll show you everything.
What does it cost?
The 12-week course is free, funded by The National Lottery Community Fund. Our other sessions start from £30 (sound healing from £50) — see our programmes.
Do I need to be referred?
No. You can get in touch yourself. Teachers, support workers and NHS staff can also refer someone.
What should I bring?
Nothing. All the equipment is provided.
Will I have to talk about my mental health?
No. The sessions are about making music. Nobody has to share anything personal — and if something comes up, our staff are trained to support you.
Are the staff checked?
Yes. Everyone who delivers a session holds an Enhanced DBS check and is safeguarding-trained, and we have a named Safeguarding Lead and Deputy. Read our safeguarding policy.
Can I say no to photos?
Yes. We only take or use photos with your permission, and saying no doesn’t affect your place in any way. You can change your mind at any time.
What if I'm under 18?
You’re welcome. A parent or carer fills in part of the registration form with you, including how you’ll get home after the session.
I have access or sensory needs. Can I still come?
Yes — everyone is welcome, including people with SEND. Bryer Road is step-free and wheelchair accessible, with a quiet room if you need a break. Tell us on your registration form or email us beforehand, and we’ll plan around what you need.
Will I be asked to fill in questionnaires?
On the 12-week course we ask you to fill in a short wellbeing questionnaire at the start and end, so we can tell whether the sessions help. It’s voluntary, and you can skip any question.
